According to information from ICI RCFM, the shooter was hiding in the maquis, overlooking the cemetery where the former Corsican nationalist leader was burying his mother.

The location from where the shot that killed Alain Orsoni on Monday while he was attending his mother’s funeral in Corsica was determined, reports ICI RCFM on Wednesday, January 14. The firing point was identified in the maquis, near a pine tree, overlooking the Vero cemetery, about a hundred meters from where Alain Orsoni was located, a source close to the case informed ICI RCFM.

Also according to ICI RCFM, the bullet received by the former Corsican nationalist leader hit approximately four centimeters from his heart. Alain Orsoni, 71, was shot around 5 pm on Monday north of Ajaccio, in the Gravona Valley, in Upper Corsica, during his mother’s funeral in the village of Vero.

The investigation is being conducted jointly by the national anti-crime prosecution office (Pnaco) and the specialized interregional jurisdiction of Marseille. This is the first case handled by the Pnaco. The charges in this case include: murder by an organized group, participation in a criminal association, participation in a criminal organization (a new offense under the narco law), as learned by franceinfo from the Pnaco.
